Kelly Marshall Announces Retirement After More Than 35 Years of Credit Union Leadership

After more than 35 years of service to the Canadian Credit Union System, Kelly Marshall has announced his retirement, marking the close of a remarkable career defined by purpose, leadership, and a deep commitment to people and community.

Kelly’s credit union journey began in Saskatchewan in 1990 at Prince Albert Credit Union, where he spent more than a decade moving through successive roles, starting as a teller and eventually overseeing consumer retail operations, including a call centre. In 2001, he was selected to lead Edson Credit Union in Alberta as President and CEO, a role he held until 2006. On July 4, 2006, Kelly joined Summerland & District Credit Union as President and CEO, where he would spend the next 19 years guiding the organization through growth, change, and long-term sustainability.

Leadership Through Growth and Change

Most recently, following the historic merger of Summerland, Osoyoos, and Revelstoke Credit Unions, Kelly has led Cascadia Credit Union as President and CEO. Under his leadership, Cascadia has been shaped not just through strategy and scale, but through a strong emphasis on trust, listening, and shared purpose. Kelly is widely recognized for his approach to leadership -understanding that meaningful transformation happens when people feel heard, respected, and valued.

Throughout his career, Kelly demonstrated a strong commitment to lifelong learning, holding an ACUIC designation with Honours from CUIC and completing executive and governance programs through the Credit Union Institute of Canada, the Credit Union Executives Society, the Institute of Corporate Directors, and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Provincial, National, and International Contributions

Kelly also contributed extensively at the system level, serving as a Director and Chair of Stabilization Central and Director and Chair of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES). He continues to serve as a Director with Consumer Protection BC and Stabilization Central. His leadership has extended provincially, nationally, and internationally, reflecting a deep commitment to cooperative values and strong governance.

Kelly’s dedication and impact have been recognized throughout his career, including the BC Distinguished Service Award in 2025 and induction into the CUES Hall of Fame. These honours reflect not only his professional accomplishments, but also his reputation as a thoughtful, principled leader who leads with empathy, curiosity, and integrity.

Reflecting on his career, Kelly shared:

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who shared in the challenges, successes and the everyday moments that made this work so meaningful! I will leave proud of what we have accomplished together and confident in the future of Cascadia Credit Union, the credit union system and the people who continue to carry its mission forward.”

Alan Chell, Board Chair of Cascadia Credit Union, offered the following comment:

On behalf of the Cascadia Credit Union Board of Directors, I would like to add our congratulations to Kelly on the celebration of an outstanding career with the credit union family. We feel very fortunate to have Kelly as the initial CEO of Cascadia and thank him for all his leadership and vision in getting Cascadia off to such a great start.

As Kelly steps into retirement, he leaves behind a legacy of strong, successful institutions, empowered teams, and communities better served through cooperation and care. His leadership has contributed to the strength and stability of the credit union system in British Columbia and beyond, and his impact will continue through the people and organizations he has worked alongside.

We thank Kelly for his decades of service and wish him every success and happiness in the next chapter.

As Cascadia Credit Union prepares for Kelly’s retirement, the Board of Directors has initiated an executive search process to identify the organization’s next President and CEO.
